The KilnShelf Team:

Marshall Browne

marshall@ssfbs.com

Marshall has many years of ceramics experience working for several clay companies over the past 25 years including Continental Clay, Minnesota Clay and Robbins Clay. He has built kilns, conducted clay workshops and is a past board member and board chair of Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis. He understands the specific needs of potters, ceramic educators and clay artists when it comes to kiln shelves and kiln refractory materials.

Dona Turbes

With sadness we report that Dona passed away on January 2nd, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.  She was 88 years young and had worked in the refractory business for over 50 years!  Known for her encyclopedic knowledge of refractories including kiln shelves, she has helped many potters successfully choose and specify materials for all types of kilns and had a complete working knowledge of our kiln shelf offerings. No request was too large or small for Dona’s unsurpassed level of care and attention. She remembered almost every customer she had ever helped, and every customer she has helped remembers her!

She will be missed by the clay community and by all of us at Smith-Sharpe Fire Brick Supply who had the honor of working with her.

We have established a paid studio internship in honor of Dona through Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis.
